Great again. One small correction. By January, 1982, Garry Templeton was no longer a Cardinals Shortstop; the Ozzie for Templeton trade took place on December 10, 1981 and I hardly think he was still on Giles’ radar after that trade, unless the Padres were looking to flip him right after they got him.
Brent, I was thinking the same thing. But when I looked it up, there was a snag because of Ozzie’s no-trade clause, so the deal wasn’t completed until February 19, 1982. I can’t recall whether it was still assumed to be a done deal in the interim…
